VINELink Replacement in Texas for Grimes County
Texas replaced county VINE with IVSS-Counties effective September 1, 2025. Existing registrations carried over, although the first login required a password update and telephone or text delivery moved through a different provider. Current instructions should therefore send a Grimes County jail query to IVSS-Counties, not to an old VINELink workflow.
Texas also maintains TDCJ IVSS for state prisons, parole, and mandatory supervision. That separate system serves Wallace Pack Unit and O. L. Luther Unit records because they are TDCJ prisons, despite their Grimes County locations. Neither state portal covers federal BOP custody or ICE detention.
How to Search a Grimes County Inmate in IVSS-Counties
The county portal supports a one-person search. It accepts full or partial names and several agency identifiers. When spelling is uncertain, the portal suggests using the first three letters of both the first and last names.
- Open IVSS-Counties and enter a full or partial name, DOC ID, SID, Jail ID, or Permanent Booking number.
- Complete the CAPTCHA and submit the search.
- Compare identifiers and custody details before choosing a record. Similar names can belong to different people.
- Open the matching detail and review the custody or event information.
- If the event matters, register before release when possible and retain the alert or confirmation.
A person who has already left county custody may disappear from the portal. The portal warns that it is not the official record, so a missing result should lead to Jail or Records confirmation, not a claim that release occurred.

Search a Grimes County TDCJ Record
TDCJ IVSS anonymous search accepts last and first name, SID number, TDCJ number, or a previous TDCJ number. Search the state portal when the person was held at Pack, Luther, or another TDCJ unit, or when the question concerns parole or mandatory supervision. Open View Details and check Expected Release Date and Actual Release Date where shown.
This result differs from the public TDCJ current-inmate search. The current search accepts Last Name, First Name, TDCJ Number, and SID Number, but it includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility and can lag by at least a day. A person who is no longer there requires IVSS, parole status, a release certificate, or an incarceration-history request.
County assistance is available from the IVSS-Counties operator at 866-268-8959. TDCJ Victim Services can assist with state IVSS at 800-848-4284 or victim.svc@tdcj.texas.gov. Public searching did not independently prove a Grimes participation table, so select Grimes County in the portal and call the operator if the county is unavailable.

County IVSS can support search or notification without a full account. For TDCJ IVSS, the official account setup is more detailed because telephone confirmation and event preferences attach to a private profile.

Set Grimes County Event and Delivery Preferences
The TDCJ subscription wizard asks about the registrant's relationship to the person and relevant case or victim information. It then presents event categories and delivery methods. Select only the events and channels needed, save the preferences, review the confirmation, and retain the confirmation email. The offender should then appear under My Registrations.

The dashboard history may identify a notice as requested, sent, undeliverable, or confirmed. Those states are useful when documenting whether an alert was delivered. They do not turn IVSS into the official booking, release, or court file.
Limits of a Grimes County VINE Inmate Check
IVSS is an event-notice tool, not a verdict about a person and not a complete historical archive. A county detainee can vanish from search after release while a registration remains active in case of return to custody. A transfer can also end one agency's display without placing the person in the community. Confirm the event with the matching custodian.
TDCJ cautions that non-victim family members should use public offender information when an inappropriate victim registration could interfere with offender telephone-system enrollment. Follow current portal eligibility guidance. Registration is confidential and should not be treated as a public judgment about the named person.
Data entry, agency reporting, and identity matching can create delays or mistakes. Preserve the alert, note the time received, and obtain the release record or certificate when the exact date, authority, or destination matters.
Why Grimes County Former Detainees May Disappear
The Texas transition creates a distinctive split. IVSS-Counties replaced legacy VINE for local jail events, while TDCJ IVSS remains the state prison and parole system. The county portal expressly warns that former detainees may not remain searchable. The state detail, by contrast, may show both Expected and Actual Release Date.
This means the same person may produce different results depending on the custody stage. A Grimes County Jail booking belongs in county IVSS. A later transfer to TDCJ belongs in state IVSS. A blank county search after the transfer does not prove community release. Agency ownership and an affirmative event are more reliable than simple name absence.

Transfer, release, discharge, and end of supervision are not interchangeable. A transfer continues custody elsewhere. Parole continues a sentence in the community under conditions. Discharge is separate. Read the notice label as written and compare it with the custodian's record.
Grimes County Notification Events and Registry Limits
County choices can include booking or release, court-setting changes, death, escape, and transfer to TDCJ. Availability depends on what the portal offers for the matched agency and case. A notice remains a system message rather than a certified release document.
The Texas DPS sex-offender registry and Violent Offender Database are separate, narrow systems. A qualifying entry may show a post-release status or photograph, but it does not prove a Grimes County Jail release. Local sex-offender registration responsibility is divided between Navasota Police for city residents and the Sheriff for qualifying residents outside Navasota. Neither registry replaces IVSS or the originating custody record.
