Grimes County Jail Release Paths
Grimes County Jail is the county's pretrial and short-sentence custody hub. A release to the community may follow a posted bond, a dismissal, a judge's order, time served, or completion of a county jail term. Each label has a distinct meaning. Bond ends physical detention while the case continues. Time served reflects court-awarded credit. A dismissal ends a charge, though another case or hold can still block exit.
Not every end to Grimes County Jail custody is a community release. A person can move to TDCJ, another county, federal or immigration custody, or a treatment placement. An outside warrant or parole warrant may cause an immediate handoff. The Sheriff does not disclose transfer information for security reasons. Request the public release disposition or releasing authority, then search the likely receiving system.

Confirm Grimes County Jail Release
A missing name is not proof of release. No official public Grimes County web roster or historical release feed was found. The strongest process begins with a current physical-custody question and ends with an affirmative event record. - Call the Jail at 936-873-6439 and ask whether the person is physically held now.
- If the person is not held, call Sheriff Records at 936-873-6442 or 936-873-6443 and request the existing booking and release record.
- Check the Grimes criminal case for the signed bond order, judgment, sentence, dismissal, or other authority.
- If transfer is possible, check TDCJ, another county, BOP, or ICE according to the likely receiving custodian.
- Match full name with date of birth, booking number, SID, TDCJ number, or case number to avoid a false match.
The record request should name one person and a narrow booking or release range. Ask for booking date/time, release date/time, release type, authorizing court or agency, bond, holds, transfer notation, and booking photograph. The custodian need not answer a general question or compile a new list. Ask for existing responsive records in electronic form and request the statutory basis for withheld parts.

Open-records requests go to the County Attorney for review. After approval, Records determines reproduction cost and sends notice. The office mails the report after payment. Published methods include money order, business check, or exact cash in person, with no personal checks or cards. A posted $3 incident-report price does not establish the charge for a jail release sheet or photo. Copy, labor, programming, and overhead costs may depend on the volume and format.

Grimes County Jail Release Timing
The Sheriff's FAQ says there is no fixed answer for release duration. Jail staff process both bookings and releases. Personnel must receive bond or court papers, confirm the documents, check state and national wanted-person databases, and clear every other charge. System maintenance, workload, and delayed paperwork can postpone departure.
A judge's statement in court is only one point in the chain. The signed order must reach the jail. Staff then complete warrants and holds checks before physical exit. These moments should not be merged into one timestamp. For a past event, request the recorded release date and time instead of estimating from the court appearance.
The Sheriff's materials do not publish a fixed release hour, exit door, property-return process, weekend schedule, or waiting area. Those details must not be guessed. Call the Jail for current operational directions, especially before arranging transportation or arriving with bond paperwork.
Grimes County Jail Bond Release
Grimes County has a Bail Bond Board. Only board-approved companies may post a surety bond at the jail. A surety bond uses a licensed company's undertaking for the defendant's appearance. A cash bond requires the full amount and follows a different process. Neither kind of bond means the charge was dismissed or the person was acquitted.
For a cash bond or cash fine, the Sheriff directs people to the jail with a valid government photo ID and a cashier's check or money order for the full amount. The FAQ says no personal checks or cash, but also uses “exact change” wording. Call before arrival to verify the current form of payment. Instruments on Grimes charges are payable to the Grimes County Sheriff's Office; outside-county charges require directions from jail staff.
Cash-bond refunds are controlled by the court after the defendant appears and the case ends. Misdemeanor refunds route through the County Clerk, while felony refunds route through the District Clerk. That later financial step is distinct from the release event and should not be treated as evidence that physical exit occurred on a certain day.
Grimes County Jail Court Records
Jail records show custody movement; court records explain authority. Grimes directs misdemeanor dispositions to the County Clerk and felony dispositions to the District Clerk. Useful documents include bond orders, judgments, jail-credit findings, commitments, dismissals, acquittals, and orders changing or ending community supervision.
The county's court-record guide points to LGS Online Records Search and Re:Search Texas. LGS offers guest index access and image previews, while eligible documents may require registration and purchase. Re:Search Texas covers e-filed material from 2016 forward but does not replace older Grimes files. Read the signed order, not just a short docket label.
Expunction and nondisclosure can alter access. Release itself does not establish eligibility. Article 55A.451 requires the person responsible for release or discharge to provide a written explanation of expunction rights and a copy of Chapter 55A, but that notice is not a final expunction order.
Three Grimes County Release Systems
Grimes County's detention geography is unusual. The county jail is in Anderson, while Wallace Pack Unit and O. L. Luther Unit are TDCJ prisons near Navasota. A release question mentioning Navasota may therefore belong to state corrections rather than Sheriff Records. Physical location within Grimes County does not change agency ownership.
Luther opened in July 1982 and lists CHANGES/Pre-Release and Reentry Planning. It is co-located with Pack and shares agricultural operations. Releases from either prison are TDCJ events. State officials control sentence calculations, approved locations, certificates, parole preparation, and transfers. The Sheriff cannot issue a state discharge record merely because the prison sits in Grimes County.
A Grimes County Jail detainee transferred to Pack, Luther, or another TDCJ unit has left county custody but remains incarcerated. Search TDCJ before release, then use state IVSS, parole information, a certificate, or an incarceration-history request afterward. State Release Rules Are Different
State-prison release-day rules should not be borrowed for the county jail. Government Code Section 501.015 addresses TDCJ release assistance, including civilian clothing, available trust funds, an identification certificate when available, and transportation. It applies to the state corrections process, not a Grimes bond release or county sentence.
